Heads of Workers' Compensation Authorities (HWCA) changes affecting Rehabilitation Counsellors

The Heads of Workers' Compensation Authorities (HWCA) have proposed a number of  changes to service provision within the workers compensation jurisdictions throughout Australia.  These recent changes have also defined which professionals can provide such services and how such professionals can gain recognition and authority to provide such services.

The major change affecting rehabilitation counsellors is the requirement that: -

“Rehabilitation Consultants will have a qualification recognised, accredited or registered by one of the following associations or state registration bodies.” 

HWCA recognises ASORC as one of the representative associations referred to above.  ASORC is the professional body of choice for Rehabilitation Counsellors in Australia, with several hundred members across all States and Territories.  You may like to visit the HWCA website for further information:  http://www.hwca.org.au/

In order to be recognised by ASORC, individuals must formally apply to ASORC for membership and be assessed against ASORC membership criteria. Gaining ASORC membership and maintaining that financial membership status constitutes ongoing recognition as a rehabilitation counsellor. 

ASORC Release of Information Authority

ASORC members involved in the provision of occupational rehabilitation services may be required by Comcare and relevant state based Workers' Compensation Authorities to confirm their eligibility to provide such services.

A Release of Information Authority has been created for ASORC Members.  This form when signed, gives your consent for us to provide confirmation to such authorities of your membership status.  Those who are already involved in, or those who intend to apply to provide such services will need to complete and lodge this form with ASORC National Office.
